Body Art - Beauty Comes in ALL Shapes and Sizes

Photobucket

This is Part Two of my A Day At Fashion Week 2009 in Bryant Park post on my sister blog. Actually I would have posted all of these photos on that post, but given the topic of these photos I had to create this blog so that it could have the mature content warning as stated in Blogger's rules. Please make certain to also check out the Part One post here: http://asseenbymephotosbylee.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-at-fashion-week-2009-in-bryant-park.html

These pictures were taken on 9-15-09, during NYC's Fashion Week.

I am not a "Fashion Weeker." :D I was only there for Bryant Park's Meet The Birds function (see my sister blog for more information on and pictures of that event) and then spotted the artist, Andy Golub, creating this Wonderful work. I had met him previously and seen some of his work at NYC's first annual participation in the World Naked Bike Ride Day a few months back in June, but those wonderful creations were eclipsed by the Beauty of these Amazing Creations.

The evolution of his two creations was quite interesting to watch and they were a Wonderful addition to the official Fashion Week events. His work proved that BEAUTY DOES COME IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES. At least that is my opinion. I will not speak for others that were present that day and assume what their opinions were, but instead will post pictures of some of their reactions upon seeing the models.

The second model's name is Lakisha Alston-Owens and you can reach her via email at babygirlreddred@yahoo.com or call her at 1-718-775-4776. I give it to both of these models for being Brave enough to do this! They are far braver than I!! :D I especially give respect and kudos to Ms. Alston-Owens. She truly exuded a level of self love and acceptance that I personally believe Very Few women of ANY size possess.

On this model he had to first cover up her tattoos and then paint her underwear.

They were interviewed by Time Out New York.

I just LOVE these shoes!! :D

They were also interviewed by RTVi, an international Russian-language television network, with studios based in Moscow, New York and Tel-Aviv Russian TV. (source wiki)

In addition, they were also interviewed by media personality Julia Allison ...

who, though she has a somewhat mixed internet appeal, was quite engaging and animated during her interview.

She had them pick out a song to sing that best represented the current event and I erroneously didn't right down the song titles and for the life of me can't remember them now. Lol! :D I will tell you though that they were funny! :D

She then spoke to this model about self acceptance and the model spoke about how she used to be quite thin previously and how she actually has a more positive self/body image now, as opposed to then.

Alas, the paint started to chip.

It was almost inevitable that a police officer would come to investigate the legality of the artist's and models' actions. He spoke to his superior and confirmed that it is indeed legal to be topless in public in NYC. Full nudity, however, is not allowed.

This model is a fellow Caribbean and had just attended the Labor Day Caribbean Parade that I am going to post pictures of on my Sister Blog. I just LOVED her nails! :D

And to just recap what they looked like at the beginning of the body painting process.

And here are the final BEAUTIFUL creations! :D

And off Lakisha bravely went to stand in front of the front entrance, right before one of the major evening fashion shows.
